Homeowners Insurance on Mobile Homes

As we all know, there are lots of people out there who live in mobile homes. People like myself and my family. We thought, because our mobile home was anchored in concrete and had add ons, we'd have no problem getting homeowners insurance. In add ons, I'm referring to a porch, attic, garage, and laundry room. I phoned at least 4 different insurance agencies, and was turned down by all of them! Some of the reasons given were: not being close enough to a fire hydrant, not having central air, and not being a new enough mobile home.

Once we did find an agency, we had to make sure certain regulations were in place. Regulations such as: proper fire equipment on the premises, any stairs with more than 3 steps had to have railings, and have an exit strategy planned for all living in the mobile home. We also had to take pictures of everything, and turn them in to the agency.

Once we got our policy and looked it over real good; well, I'm sure you can imagine what the coverage was like. Or not. We decided to look around ASAP for, hopefully a better policy. It took a while, but we finally did find a place. The last one. When we told our previous carrier that we were leaving, their response was; "you'll not find a better deal"! Although we switched, I'm sorry to say, The coverage wasn't that much better. Our neighbor told us that if we put all our property on one policy, we'd get better coverage on our mobile home. That's how he got his coverage on his mobile home. Unfortunately, not everyone has his money.

How many of you out there feel you have less than adequate coverage? Do you feel like your being somewhat short changed? I think I'd have better coverage if I built a wooden shed! In ending; how about a little humor? Dorothy's housed got sucked up by a tornado, didn't it? See, it's not just a mobile home thing!
