Car Crash Checklist - How to React Once Car Accident Occurs

The thought of being trapped in a car crash make people scared. However, the fact is almost everybody experiences car accident at least once in lifetime. Even when you take all the precautionary measures and drive responsible, an irresponsible driver with handheld cell phone might come and hit your car.

It is often said that talking over cell phone while driving is more dangerous than drunk driving. Whatever is the reason behind the accident, the knit result is that you are in a mess. Once the accident happens you are supposed to carry out a list of tasks.

Since you cannot avoid accidents always, it is smart to learn what to do once car accident occurs. This would help you get out of the incident sooner. Let's check the points.

Inspect yourself and co-passengers

Even when you cannot feel pain, look at your hands, body, legs for any sort of injury. Call your co-passengers, if any, by their names and ask how they are feeling.

Try to get out of the car. Be careful with your steps. You should not injure others while moving out of the car. If anybody inside the car has fallen unconscious or is shouting in pain, chances are high that you would rush to get out of the car to extend him or her helping hand. While doing so, you might end up injuring others. Be slow but steady with your moves.

Moving the vehicle

If the spot of accident is a remote one and you cannot see anybody around, use your cell phone to call 911. You have to contact local police to know whether you can move the vehicle from the site. If you are already in a safe place, do not try to move your vehicle and wait for the police to reach. However, if you need to shift the vehicle for the sake of security or for the vehicles are creating roadblock, then go ahead and move it with the permission of local police.

When you call 911, the responder might ask you questions like if anyone has been injured in the accident, the position of the vehicles and other similar stuffs. Do not forget to give them detailed information about where the accident spot is located as they may not track the location of the caller.

Collect relevant info

Talk to the other drivers involved in the accident. Note down their name, address, insurance information, car model and make, vehicle number, number of people inside the cars - simply collect as much information as you can. If the case goes to court, accident attorneys may need this information.

Talk to the witnesses and collect their contact details in case you realize that you have been victimized.

However, while talking to others do not accept your fault even when it was your mistake.

Once police arrives, they would ask for your driving license and registration. Keep these things ready. Police may also ask for insurance cards of the passengers and injured people. Make sure you have all the documents in place so that the entire episode is summed up quickly.

Doctor and Lawyer

Even when the injuries look not-much-serious, visit a doctor and get yourself and others checked. Finally, consult a personal injury lawyer to know how to get your damages compensated justly.

Driving in Los Angeles Can Be an Accident Waiting to Happen

For many years, Car accidents in Los Angeles have become an unavoidable danger to residents. Los Angeles is a very large city, second only to New York City in population. Because so many Angelinos own a car, the City of the Angeles has experienced an ever-rising number of car accidents. According to traffic collision data reported by the Los Angeles Department of Transportation, there were 50,317 car collisions of all categories and types reported in the city of Los Angeles in 2002. This is an enormous number of car collisions.

A Caltrans Report ranked Los Angeles number one on a list of California cities where one might suffer a car accident. These accidents are extremely dangerous, forcing many residents to find experienced California car accident attorneys for help with their car collision. The study confirmed that Los Angeles has the highest number of car accident locations in California--with a total of 400 accident sites. The Caltrans report, called the "5 Percent Report," was prepared in response to a federal mandate that required all states to look into areas that have the highest car accident rates. The report drew its conclusions based on accident statistics that stretched from 2004 to 2006.

Contributing to the rising tide in traffic accidents throughout Los Angeles were19 city intersections with the worst car accident records. All told, planners identified 39 problematic intersections. Among these was the Valley intersection at the corner of Parthenia Street and Reseda Boulevard in Northridge, which had the most accidents in a 12-month period.

Two other Los Angeles intersections had more car collisions. They included the Adams Boulevard and La Brea Avenue intersection in the Mid-City area with 28 accidents; and the Highland Avenue and Sunset Boulevard intersection in Hollywood with 24 accidents. Both have unusually high traffic volumes. The Valley's larger streets and longer distances between stop lights allowed drivers to approach these intersections at higher speeds, which contributed to a rise in accident rate per vehicles passing through.

The most egregious offenders were:

  • Parthenia St. and Reseda Blvd.
  • Canoga Ave. and Roscoe Blvd.
  • Sherman Way and Winnetka Ave.
  • Van Nuys Blvd. and Victory Blvd.
  • Canoga Ave. and Victory Blvd.
  • Coldwater Cyn. Ave. and Sherman Way
  • Roscoe Blvd. and Winnetka Ave.

Fixes ranged from installing left-turn signals and adjusting traffic-light timing to trimming trees, re-striping cross walks and installing new signs. Some intersections had license plate cameras installed to catch red-light scofflaws. Others were brought under control with increased ticket-writing to reduce car accidents.

Los Angeles is undoubtedly a city where caution cannot be overemphasized. Drivers are seriously injured daily on crowded and aging freeways, intersections and streets. While today's cars have air bags and mandated seatbelts, too many drivers' lives are still devastated by traffic accidents in the city.

Quality Auto Insurance Policy

It is an under-stated fact that driving isn't a right, it's a privilege. With luxury car and SUV sales increasing daily, it is apparent that many drivers want to feel very privileged to be driving. But while moon-roofs, third-row seats and On-star may make driving a bit more exciting, it doesn't lower the need to carry a quality auto insurance policy.

A quality auto insurance policy will provide a driver with the necessary coverage while also safeguarding them from financial damages and/or losses that can be incurred during an accident. All states require a minimum amount of standard coverage, usually categorized as liability coverage. However, the wise driver would do well to ensure that they are getting a quality auto insurance policy that also includes medical payment options, personal injury protection, and/or under-insured/un-insured motorist insurance. Most insurance companies also offer collision and comprehensive damages, at an increased cost to basic insurance premiums.

There is no single trait that makes a quality auto insurance policy, but the following are some qualities that make an insurance policy better than average:

Affordability: While location plays a large role in how much drivers will pay for a policy, quality auto insurance policies have premiums that are at the low end of the reasonable spectrum.

Flexibility: A company that offers all ranges of coverage, from liability to comprehensive, and the option to change levels of coverage and deductibles for each, is more likely to be able to provide a customer with ongoing satisfaction. Watch for companies that only offer the minimum insurance required by the state. While there is nothing wrong with minimum coverage, it will not help drivers who are involved in an accident and need medical care or a new vehicle.

Plenty of opportunity for discounts: Part of the joy of driving is receiving those discounts on monthly premiums for being a good student or a safe driver. Quality auto insurance policies allow drivers to lower their rate by adding safety and anti-theft devices onto their vehicles. Some will even discount premiums due to good payment history or taking a defensive driving or accident prevention course.

One trait of a quality insurance policy is one that doesn't necessarily receive adequate attention. It is the low-hassle factor. Policies that have an on-line component to them, a place where the insured can change policy information, pay the bill or just review the policy documents before adding a new vehicle, can save the policy-holder a significant amount of headache. This translates into less stress and more time to enjoy driving. With the proliferation of larger, more family-oriented vehicles, Americans are traveling more now than ever before. With so many drivers on the road, purchasing a quality insurance policy isn't just a good idea, it is a requirement.

Auto Insurance - You Can Save $1000s

People who have yet to check out online quotes do not understand when we constantly plead with them to get quotes before taking up any policy. Can you imagine a difference of up $2000 between different insurance companies? You only have to check it for yourself to believe.

Getting quotes is one of the tool that have helped a lot of persons get much lower quotes before any additional measure like increasing your deductible, paying yearly and not monthly etc.

Choosing a policy only after comparing several quotes, is the singular most effective way to get the lowest quotes possible.

It is very necessary to warn here. Some people go to get quotes and input wrong information. You would only be hurting yourself because the results you would get would be matched to the wrong information you have inputted. So fill in the correct information and you would get the correct information to help you save on your auto insurance and any other insurance for that matter.

I recommend that you visit at least three free quotes sites to get their quotes and compare. If you can visit up to six, that would be much better. This does not cost you a dime. It may take you about 5 to 15 minutes to fill the small form and you are on your way to getting your free quotes which has no obligations attached to it.

To help you start off, I have included two sites I consider leaders in online free quotes. Visit them and get your free quotes.

Affordable Car Accident Lawyers

Car accidents often lead to serious injuries. Majority of car accidents are caused by carelessness and unruliness of drivers. Some may also occur due to intoxication or drug-influenced operation of cars. Poorly designed roads and inappropriate traffic signals combined with defective vehicles or tires may also cause accidents. In order to compensate for damages incurred, charging a lawsuit against the negligent driver may be required. Similarly in the case of an accident a person may also be required to defend himself against a lawsuit. Judicial proceedings regarding the same tend to be extremely complicated and lengthy. As such, enlisting the services of a lawyer proves to be important. Laws relating to car accidents tend to be varied and complex.

Lawyers dealing exclusively in car accidents have a great deal of knowledge about the various legal aspects, which affect a case of car accident. They are familiar with the proceedings and requirements, which need to be followed while charging or defending a lawsuit. A lot of paperwork and formalities are required to be completed. These may relate to filling up of important forms, dealing with insurance companies and various judicial machineries.

It is a common misconception that the services of all lawyers dealing in car accidents are expensive. This is not true. A lawyer of good reputation will not charge for an initial consultation. So, in case the petitioner has questions about injuries sustained during an accident and further procedures to be followed, it is advisable to call a lawyer. Besides, it is observed that most lawyers now work on contingency fee basis, which means that the lawyer gets paid only if the petitioner gets compensated. A good car accident lawyer is generally expected to inform the client with the likely costs and fees of a lawsuit, as well as the chances for success. A person ought to be aware of the probable costs and expected outcome of the case. Accordingly, a petitioner should plan his budget to obtain optimum services of a lawyer. Information regarding the services of car accident lawyers can be obtained through the yellow pages or the Internet. Conducting a bit of research and comparing prices can help a person enlist the services of an affordable car accident lawyer.

Car Crash

There are an estimated 6 million road accidents in the US each year. About half of this number - 3 million people - are injured in these accidents. The injuries may range from minor scrapes to permanent disabilities. The number of mortal casualties in car crashes each year is estimated to be well over 40,000.

Car crashes are caused due to a number of reasons. Disobedience of traffic safety rules are the prime cause. Jumping signals, reckless driving and speeding are among the major causes of car crashes. Car crashes due to drunken and drugged driving are becoming an issue of great concern throughout the world. Use of mobile phones while driving diverts the attention of the driver and may cause an accident. Laws have been passed in several states forbidding drinking and the use of cell phones during driving.

Car crashes have been categorized according to the part that collides. They are head-on collisions, rollovers, side collisions, rear end collisions, level crossing collisions, etc. Head-on collisions are the most lethal and are almost always fatal to the people in the front seats. Head-on collisions lead to a shattering of the front glass which may cause more serious injuries. A rollover or ""turning turtle"" occurs when a car at a high speed collides with something. Such accidents may cause permanent paralysis of the victims, if not death.

The seriousness of car accidents has prompted vehicle manufacturers to devise and use new safety measures in their cars. Proximity meters are used in some recent cars. These meters can detect the safe distance from a vehicle ahead of it and can automatically change the acceleration of the vehicle to maintain that distance. Another invention is the built-in breathalyzer or the sobriety meter which locks the car if it detects over 10% of alcohol in the breath of the driver. There are other simple measures such as automatically inflating air cushions and seatbelts.

There is always some legislation involved with a car crash. The severity of the legislation depends on the impact of the crash. People involved in a car crash are supposed to stall their vehicle and inform the police immediately. The party responsible for the crash may have to compensate the injured victim. Suits are filed if the case is too serious; otherwise a roadside settlement may be done with the traffic policeman as the intermediary.

Several measures are being adopted to prevent car crashes. Efforts are on to make advanced driving classes compulsory. Hoardings are put up at prominent places and gruesome car accident clips are shown on television to make people wary of rash driving. Severe penalties are imposed on people indulging in driving when drunk or under the influence of drugs. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is constantly modifying these and other rules to reduce the number of car crashes in the country.

Car Crash provides detailed information on Car Crash, Drunk Driving Car Crash, Fatal Car Crashes, Car Crash Articles and more. Car Crash is affiliated with Car Accident Lawsuits.

Tips For Getting Better Auto Insurance

In case you still do not know what full coverage auto insurance is, here is some information that will surely enlighten you. Having full coverage auto insurance means that you are fully protected against any incident that may happen to you and your car because you have more than just the minimum auto insurance policy required by your state.

But since you are covering everything, this means that your policy will cost more than just the minimum requirements. And because of this, most drivers opt to just avail of the minimum requirements than have their vehicles fully covered. For some, this works, but there are others who require full coverage auto insurance.

So, what is the best way to purchase cheap full coverage auto insurance?

There are actually several ways in going about finding full coverage policies without having to spend a lot of money. First is to search and compare the offers. Exhaust your resources and do not limit your search through readily available ones such as the yellow pages. There are a variety of resources like advertisements on TV and the newspaper, billboards, word-of-mouth and the Internet.

The next thing you could do is to look for an auto insurance carrier that offers discounts for various reasons. Carriers may give different discounts depending on your good driving history, your age, the kind of vehicle that you drive, and on how many vehicles are under your policy. Other companies sell more than one type of insurance policy, and if you buy two or more insurance policies from them, they would give you more discounts.

For example, they would offer you very high discount on full coverage auto insurance if you buy homeowner's insurance policy from them, as well. It doesn't necessarily mean that to have more coverage equates to spending more money. You only need to find the right auto insurance company offering the right discounts to get you full coverage auto insurance policy.

Car Insurance - Budget Auto Insurance

This type of policy can be classified as a very low insurance policy. It is attractive to many people because of the cheap rates associated with them. A lot of car insurance providers use this type of package as a market strategy to attract potential customers. While it could be essential to many people, it is not always easy to find.

To get low vehicle insurance quotes with good services, you are advised to consult a car insurance comparison website. Take time to make a thorough search, collect as many quotes as possible from different providers, compare their rates, pay good attention to the services they offer and you may land yourself your preferred auto insurance deal.

There are mainly three types or categories of cover. These are:
Fully Comprehensive
Third Party
Third Party Fire and Theft

The Fully Comprehensive covers every aspect of damage to the vehicle. Covers replacement incase of fire or theft and also medical bills incase of any bodily injury sustained after an accident involving your car.

Third Party only takes care of the insured against claims from the third party involved in the accident should there be injury or other costs.

The Third Party Fire and Theft take care of the third party risks and replacements incase of theft or fire destruction.

Normally the third party category is regarded in many states as the minimum policy legally required before driving your automobile on the roads.

You can get top quality information on the various car insurance categories and compare rates before you buy a policy from any of the leading vehicle insurance companies.

Cruise Ship Accident Lawyers

Cruise ship accidents and claims require lawyers with a knowledge and extensive training and experience in maritime law. Furthermore, they must be familiar with the specific maritime laws that pertain to cruise ships only. It is true that most of the general maritime laws have some general application to accidents occurring on or with a cruise ship, there are special laws that apply specifically to these types of claims and accidents.

Most average vacationers and lawyers for that matter may not know that almost every cruise line ship is registered in a foreign country and flies a foreign flag above their deck. The law of the country of registration of the ship could potentially apply to events and accidents on the cruise ship. If the country the ship is registered is known and its laws are understood, they could be used in the case in such a way that they are more favorable to the claimant than United States laws might be.

For example, an experienced cruise ship lawyer who is trying a case that begins its voyage in Miami, Florida could use the laws of the state of Florida, the laws of the United States, or the laws of the foreign country in which the cruise ship is registered. This creates many opportunities for lawyers experienced with cruise ship accidents and cruise ship specific laws, and many obstacles for the cruise ships which the claims are against.

Lawyers experienced with trying cruise ship accidents would also be aware that some passenger tickets for cruise lines include a number of special provisions that modify the time in which a passenger may legally file a law suit against a cruise line. This special one year limitation has been authorized by United States federal statutes. The normal statute of limitations for maritime legal matters and claims is three years. This is a small specificity that only a lawyer specializing in cruise ship accidents would be familiar with.

Another even lesser known statute allows cruise lines to designate a single location where they can be sued. This regulation is also usually printed in very find print on the passenger ticket and is often referred to as a forum selection clause. Most of the major cruise lines designate Miami, Florida as the only place where they can be sued. This is because they are based there. Many passengers wishing to file a claim against a cruise ship do not have lawyers that are knowledgeable in cruise ship accident laws and waste time and money filing there claim with the wrong court.

In almost every single case in which passengers and their lawyers have been unaware of the cruise lines forum selection clause or have otherwise chosen to ignore it and filed a law suit in a court other than the one designated by the clause, the law suit has been dismissed. This leaves the passenger with no means of recovery against the cruise line and no time to resubmit the claim in the proper court because the one year statute is so short.

Clifford Young is an accomplished niche website developer and author. To learn more about cruise ship accident lawyers, please visit Cruise Site for current articles and discussions.

Surgical Accident Lawyers & Medical Malpractice Attorneys

Whenever a patient has to undergo a surgical procedure they naturally hope everything will go as planned. Nobody ever wants to think that their surgery will go wrong due to negligence or incompetence, but sometimes accidents do happen.

Surgeons are only human, and sometimes mistakes are made during surgery. Its unfortunate, but true. One type of surgical mistake that can be made is when an item or instrument, such as a sponge or a scalpel, is left inside the patient. Another type of surgical accident occurs when an incision is made to the wrong body part. Sometimes doctors and their staffs make cuts into the wrong areas of the body and as a result, patients may suffer long term, life-threatening complications as a result of this type of accident.

Another type of surgical accident occurs when the operation takes place on the wrong side or the wrong side of the body. Sometimes the surgeons (or staff) gets confused and cuts into the wrong side of the body. For instance, if the surgery was supposed to be on the left arm, they occasionally make a mistake and operate on the right arm instead. Obviously this can also cause life-threatening complications, including severe infections and unneeded pain and suffering.

In addition to these types of accidents, other surgical mistakes can occur when improper anesthesia is given, or when surgery takes place that is not required. Anesthesia mistakes occur when a patient is given too much, or too little anesthesia is given to the patient.

If you or a loved one has been a victim of a surgical accident, you may be entitled to seek financial compensation for your pain and suffering. Please dont hesitate, and contact an experienced surgical accident lawyer today.

DWI Car Accidents

In the year 2000, there were about 16,653 people in the United States who were killed in car accident involving alcohol. This figure comprises about 40 percent of all people killed in traffic accidents during that year. This is mainly because drivers who were driving while intoxicated endangered not only their own lives but the lives of other people as well. Given this, a number of states have taken necessary steps to prevent the occurrence of injury and death caused by alcohol. One of these steps is to lower the limit of the allowable blood alcohol concentration (BAC) among drivers.

Given the alarming figures of car accidents involving alcohol, a number of states have lowered the allowable BAC among drivers from a BAC of 100 mg/dl or 0.1 percent to 80 mg/dl or 0.08 percent. This is because based on a number of studies; almost all drivers are impaired at a level of 80mg/dL. At this level, drivers experience some level of difficulty in critical driving skills such as steering, braking and changing lanes. Furthermore, the studies show that some impairment occurs at 50 mg/dl, when some people already show signs of being drunk.

The Federal Government has also mandated that all fifty states should enact laws that establish 80 mg/dl as the allowable BAC among private vehicles. As a means to encourage states to do so, the Federal Government is withholding 2 percent of federal highway construction funds of the states that refuse to do so. In addition, the Federal Government has set a very low BAC among drivers of commercial vehicles, -- 40 mg/dl, which studies have shown is enough to cause impairment.

In response to the alarming figures related to car accidents that involve alcohol, both state and the Federal Government have taken the necessary steps to prevent such accidents from happening. One of these steps is to lower the limit of the allowable blood alcohol concentration that can prevent car accidents.

AAA Auto Insurance - Helpful Information About AAA Auto Insurance Coverage

Q: Is AAA auto insurance less expensive than comparable insurance policies?

A: AAA auto insurance is similar to any other insurance that is negotiated as pool coverage. Basically what this means is that they negotiate their auto insurance rate with an insurance carrier based on the number of members who are willing to buy their coverage.

The provider itself does not ensure coverage of your policy. The insurance company that they negotiate the rates with does. For example say you, as an individual, negotiate a rate with your local insurance agency. You will get whatever rate your type of coverage is going for in the city in which you live. Now imagine if they negotiated a rate for similar coverage with an insurance carrier. They can negotiate a rate based on ten thousand policies being sold. Obviously they will have more leverage negotiating a better rate with the company. It is the same reason health insurance is less expensive for larger companies than self-employed people.

Ultimately, they will probably save you some money when you are shopping for auto insurance, but it is simply based on the number of policies they are able to negotiate, and not because they have better or worse coverage than any other company.

Ultimately, we highly recommend that you shop around and compare quotes from several different car insurance providers online before making a decision. Comparison shopping is one of the best ways to save money on automobile coverage and it can also help you find higher quality coverage to boot.

Auto Insurance Information Guide

Auto insurance as we all know is the insurance consumers purchase for their vehicle be it a car, truck or any other automobile. The purpose of auto insurance is to safeguard the vehicle against accidents, theft and any other loss incurred. Auto insurance can cover, the insured party, the insured vehicle and the third parties. Different policies specify the situations under which each of these items is covered.

Like life insurance, auto insurance too has become the need of the hour. A surge in insecurity of the vehicles has resulted in many big and small companies venturing in this area and trying their luck.

There are different types of auto insurances available. The policies vary with the need and wants of the people purchasing the policy. For example certain types of insurance policies include bodily injury liability, property damage liability, medical payments, and collision and comprehension coverage for physical damage to the insured vehicle.

Broadly speaking an auto insurance policy is divided into five parts.

1. Declarations- this part of policy contains personal information about the drivers in your house. This includes their name and address, make and model of the vehicle, vehicle identification number, policy number, duration etc. This part also comprises of basic type of coverage that you purchased and your policy limits and deductibles. It is very important to provide correct information in this area; otherwise the insurance claim can be declined at ease.

2. Coverage Parts- in this option the coverage limits such as liability, medical, collision and comprehensive are discussed. This section primarily outlines what your insurance company guarantees to provide in return for your payment, based on the coverage and coverage limits opted.

3. Exclusions- this section briefs about what is left uncovered by your policys limitations. From here you will get to know that what all will be covered when you make a claim and allows you to make rectifications in the policy.

4. Conditions- this section is all about legitimacy i.e. the legal bindings on the insurer and the insured. It includes premium payment obligations, steps to filing a claim, and guidance to resolve disputes.

5. Definitions- also known as fine print, this segment is where terms and the rights of the policyholder and the insurance company are defined.

In several countries it is mandatory to purchase auto insurance before driving on public roads. The least requirement in this area is third party insurance to protect the third parties against the loss, damage or accident by a vehicle. You may or may not get an insurance cover against loss or damage to your own vehicle. While some other countries make the insurance of both the car and the driver compulsory.

Car insurance plans a regular flat charge per-car or per year despite of the extent to which the car is used. There is no adequate statistical basis for the insurers to compare costs used to support price classifications. Other well known methods of differentiation are reasonable estimation, odometer based systems, GPS based system and OBDII-based system.
